PROJECT OVERVIEW - $40 Million Investment

The eight-story KONE Centre provides unparalleled views of the adjacent Mississippi River as well as the Bass Street Landing Plaza.  Completed in 2012, this $40 million mixed-use development provides a new Moline home to the U.S. Operations Center of KONE, Inc., a Finnish-based elevator and escalator manufacturer, and will bring additional retail and office tenants as well as condominium owners to Moline's riverfront.  The tower is supported by a multi-story parking structure which is also home to public restrooms and concessions next to Bass Street Plaza.

This highly anticipated development has redefined Moline’s skyline, providing a modern icon which blends with the city’s historic past.  The building is the first in the state of Illinois to achieve platinum LEED certification for the core and shell.  A state-of-the-art elevator system which captures energy from the friction of the cars’ movements; bicyclist-friendly amenities including a shower and locker room; and the third largest photovoltaic array in the state all play a part in the project receiving such a distinction for sustainability.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION

The proposed architectural design will include modern steel and glass that will reflect its nearby environment.  Balconies and observations decks will grace the structure's exterior.  At its base, the accompanying grounds will function as public space ideal for gatherings providing superb riverfront access.

The building and the construction process will strive to attain Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System™, meeting the demand for energy efficiency in new building construction.

An adjacent structure connected to the tower will house the parking garage for tenants and guests, as well as serve a multiple purpose for Bass Street Landing providing public restrooms, concessions or retail sales, and storage. The project also calls for the programming of the Plaza at Bass Street Landing.  Such things as an outdoor ice rink, outdoor markets, concerts, and festivals will be pursued.

*UPDATE*  The KONE Centre was given a Platinum LEED Certification designation for its advancements in environemental sustainability.  It was the only project of its nature in Illinois to receive a Platinum Certification.

Project Successes

Renew Moline's successful collaboration with local, state and federal government agencies has resulted in a nearly $400 million investment in renovation and newly built properties in Moline's downtown, riverfront area.  And more is planned!

These investments have created jobs and returned energy to the old downtown. Over 2,000 people now work full time in downtown and nearly 600 fill part-time roles. Approximately half of these jobs have been created by the redevelopment that has taken place so far.  And more than 2,000 construction jobs have resulted from the projects now in place.
